- Lineup begins promptly at 8:30 AM in Andrews Gym (required for participants). Please be sure to arrive to campus before this time so that you have time to find a parking spot.
Apply to Graduate
A graduation application is mandatory. You cannot graduate or claim tickets to the Commencement ceremony until your graduation application has been submitted and processed by the Office of the Registrar.
Graduation Application Instructions and FAQs
The Graduation Application can be found in BannerWeb.
Instructions:
- go to https://myapplications.microsoft.com/
- Select BannerWeb
- Select "Student" on the main menu
- On the left-hand side of your Profile page, select "Apply to Graduate"
Unsure if your application was submitted or want to review what you submitted?
On your profile page, go to "Graduation Information".
You will see an active hyperlink if an application is currently on file.
You can click the active hyperlink to review your application.
You cannot change the application once it's been submitted but you can contact jsassi@norwich.edu if you need to update your application information.
Claim Guest Tickets for Commencement Ceremony
Tickets are required for your guests. You will receive an email towards the end of February with instructions on how to claim your guest tickets. You can also check back on the homepage of this site for ticket information as it becomes available. You won't be able to claim guest tickets until your graduation application has been processed so be sure to submit it soon if you haven't already.
Order Your Academic Regalia
Online students in the College of Graduate and Continuing Studies will need to purchase their regalia, which consists of a cap, gown, hood, and tassel, and bring it with them to campus. Please order your regalia from Jostens here before the deadline of March 21st.
For master's students, academic regalia consists of the following:
- master's robe/gown with long, oblong sleeves
- cap/mortarboard
- discipline-specific master's hood (selected in the ordering process)
For bachelor's students, academic regalia consists of the following:
- bachelor's robe/gown
- cap/mortarboard
- black tassel with year
Master’s Students: RSVP to the Hooding Ceremony and Reception
Deadline: April 5
All students graduating with a Norwich University master’s degree are invited to attend a traditional academic Hooding ceremony on Friday, April 26 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Shapiro Field House. The Hooding ceremony is a special recognition ceremony for master's graduates. During the ceremony, a faculty member places the academic hood over the head of each graduate to signify the achievement of earning the master's degree.
Tickets are not required for family and friends, but we will need to know if you’re planning to attend. Please RSVP here by April 5.

Does the hooding ceremony require tickets for guests?
No, tickets are not required for the Master’s Hooding Ceremony. However, we do ask that you RSVP for planning purposes so that we can have the appropriate amount of food for the reception. (add a link here)
Does the Commencement ceremony require tickets for guests?
Yes, tickets are required. Reservations will open in March with prior communication to graduates. Each graduate will initially be eligible to receive the same number of guest tickets. The number of tickets each graduate can claim will be announced in March before the ticket site opens.
Do I need to order a cap and gown?
Yes, both the hooding ceremony and the Commencement ceremony will require academic regalia. The deadline for ordering is March 21, 2024.
What is the student dress code for graduation?
Commencement and Hooding are formal ceremonies requiring business attire; however, suit coats and sport jackets are not to be worn under your academic robe
During the Commencement ceremony, caps/mortarboards are removed by all students for the National Anthem; students should plan accordingly if they intend to pin on their caps/mortarboards. Students wearing academic regalia are not permitted to decorate their mortarboards.
For the Master’s hooding ceremony, please wear your gown and carry your hood The hood will be placed over your head at the ceremony. Therefore, no caps/mortarboards or tassels are worn to the hooding ceremony
Can I wear my military uniform?
Yes, your military uniform may be worn in place of the graduation gown. If you are a Master’s student, please be sure to order a master’s degree hood on the academic regalia ordering page. The hood will be draped over your left arm during both ceremonies to denote degree earned.

Where can I stay?
There are limited accommodations in the town of Northfield where the university is located. The three closest towns are Montpelier, Barre, and Randolph. The Campus Map, Directions and Trip Planning page details a list of local accommodations that you may find useful: Area Accommodations.
What is the closest airport?
The closest airport to the Norwich University campus is the Burlington International Airport (BTV). It is about a 50-minute drive to campus.
