Apply to Graduate
To ensure you can graduate and receive tickets for the Commencement ceremony, please remember that submitting your graduation application is required. It needs to be processed by the Office of the Registrar before you're eligible for these next steps.
The Graduation Application can be found in BannerWeb. Here are instructions:

Select: Student from the main menu
On the left-hand side of your Profile page, select "Apply to Graduate"

If an application is currently on file, you will see an active hyperlink.
You can click the active hyperlink to review your application.

Order Your Academic Regalia

Hooding Ceremony Attire
Hooding is a formal ceremony requiring business attire. Bulky items such as blazers or coats should not be worn under academic robes. Military uniforms can be worn in place of academic regalia. Master's graduates in uniform will carry their hood draped over one arm.
Master's graduates should wear their gowns and carry their hoods draped over their left arms with the colored band closest to their elbow. Hoods will be placed over graduates' heads during the ceremony. Caps should not be worn during the Hooding Ceremony. Staff and faculty will be available for assistance.
Commencement Attire
Commencement is a formal ceremony requiring business attire. Bulky items such as blazers or coats should not be worn under academic robes. Students are not permitted to decorate their caps. Students will be asked to remove caps just before the National Anthem so plan to pin caps loosely to ensure easy removal when requested.
RSVP to the Hooding Ceremony and Reception (Master's Graduates Only) by Friday, April 18th, noon
All students graduating with a Norwich University master’s degree are invited to attend a traditional academic Hooding ceremony on Friday, May 2nd from 4 pm to 5:30 pm in Shapiro Field House. The Hooding ceremony is a special recognition ceremony for master's graduates. During the ceremony, a faculty member places the academic hood over the head of each graduate to signify the achievement of earning the master's degree.
Frequently Asked Questions:
If I'm a Master's graduate, should I come to both the Hooding ceremony on Friday and the Commencement ceremony on Saturday? You are welcome to attend both and will be honored at both. Students who are not able to attend both may find that the Hooding ceremony is more customized and personal to attend with friends and family.
Does the hooding ceremony require tickets for guests? You won't need tickets to the Master’s Hooding Ceremony. However, an RSVP is required.
Does the Commencement ceremony require tickets for guests?
Yes, tickets are required and will be issued to you in January. Each graduate will initially receive 4 guest tickets and 1 ticket for themselves. Graduates will then have the option to return guest tickets or request more, depending on availability.
Do I need to order a cap and gown?
Yes, both the hooding ceremony and the Commencement ceremony will require academic regalia. The deadline for ordering is Thursday, March 27, 2025.
Can I purchase a class ring?

Where can I stay?
There are limited accommodations in the town of Northfield, VT. The three closest towns are Montpelier, Barre, and Randolph. The Campus Map, Directions and Trip Planning page provides a list of potential lodging options. Make reservations early!
What is the closest airport?
The closest airport to the Norwich University campus is the Burlington International Airport (BTV). It is about a 50-minute drive to campus.
