Outreach & Education
The Counseling and Wellness Center staff offer a wide variety of services to groups such as facilitating workshops, conducting screening for substance use and depression, debriefing after a traumatic event, psycho- educational material, and event collaboration and coordination. Please contact us with the goals and ideas you have and we can see if we can assist.
Counseling and Wellness Center Workshops are available for any faculty to request. We can also work with faculty to integrate appropriate and tailored mental health education into curriculum with more notice. Please feel free to reach out if you have an idea.
Alcohol Awareness
This is a training that serves as a private and confidential means for students to actively engage in the topic of alcohol use here on the Norwich campus. In this training participants will be asked to reflect on their own personal pattern of drinking and to explore the benefits and risk factors associated with that pattern of use. Additionally, participants will learn about the signs and symptoms of risky, abusive, or dependent patterns of alcohol use while being informed on how to, when to, and where to seek out support for themselves or others in need of intervention.
Suicide Prevention
120 minutes
Umatter® is a registered program of the Center for Health and Learning (CHL) in Vermont. Evidence-based research and personal lived experiences were considered when creating this program. UMatter has identified goals and objectives with an opportunity to increase knowledge, skills and attitudes about suicide prevention by creating an environment that can address numerous learning styles.
This is a two hour training presented by certified trainers.

Stress Busters
45 minutes
Stress is a leading factor in our students receiving a lower grade on a test or assignment. We know that too much stress is bad ... but, now what? No stress relief method works for every person in every situation — and that's OK. This workshop will give students information about what stress is and how it affects their bodies, brains and emotional experiences. They will leave with ideas for hands-on activities and resources to better manage their stress.

Don't Believe Everything You Think: CBT 101
45 minutes
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the gold standard for evidence-based treatment of depression, anxiety and a variety of other mental health challenges. This workshop is an introduction to cognitive-behavioral techniques designed to help students learn to identify and challenge distorted thinking that leads to unpleasant emotions and experiences. By increasing self-awareness and understanding how their assumptions influence their moods, students will be able to better control their emotional experiences.

Social Identity

Participants will reflect on and share about their identities and learn from those of their peers, including identities they think about often or rarely and those about which they'd like to learn more.
