Norwich University Strengthens Connections at Fort Liberty Alumni Networking Social
Norwich University recently celebrated the enduring bonds of its alumni community during a successful Norwich Alumni Networking Social, held in conjunction with a visit to the JFK Non-Commissioned Officer Academy at Fort Liberty, NC. The event highlighted Norwich’s commitment to fostering lifelong connections and educational opportunities for its alumni and current students.
During the visit, Norwich representatives dedicated extensive time to an in-depth analysis and review of the Programs of Instruction for the Basic, Advanced, Senior, and Master Leader Courses taught at the Academy. This meticulous work aimed to identify areas where course materials could align with opportunities for credit toward the university’s Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis (SSDA) program. Reflecting Norwich’s mission to honor and support the educational advancement of service members, this initiative showcased the university’s dedication to recognizing military expertise and providing pathways for academic achievement.
The day culminated in a vibrant Norwich Networking “No-Host” Social. The event, coordinated in partnership with the Office of Development & Alumni Relations, drew together an inspiring group of current students and alumni. Eleven remarkable Norwich alumni answered the call, creating an evening filled with camaraderie and connection.
The social was hosted by Laurie LaMothe from the Office of Development & Alumni Relations, alongside James Dalton, Keith Baranow, James Breckinridge, and university representative Chris Soan. Laurie delivered an exciting update about the university’s latest initiatives, and attendees were thrilled to receive new Norwich Alumni swag, including an elegant lapel pin that quickly became a favorite keepsake.
Among the attendees were Thomas Dale, Class of 1979, the most “seasoned” alumnus of the evening, and Deryk Smith, a recent SSDA graduate who earned his degree just two months ago. The event’s intergenerational connections underscored the strength and diversity of the Norwich alumni network. Alumni shared stories, advice, and memories, fostering a renewed sense of pride and belonging. The gathering concluded with a heartfelt “Norwich Forever,” leaving a lasting impression on all in attendance.
Chris Soan, Chapter President of the Alumni Association for the Fort Liberty area, shared his enthusiasm for revitalizing the local chapter, using the success of this gathering as a launching pad. He expressed a vision of restoring the vibrant sense of community the association enjoyed before the pandemic.
This event served as a beautiful reminder of Norwich University’s unwavering spirit of unity, resilience, and shared purpose. With the success of the Fort Liberty Alumni Networking Social, Norwich continues to demonstrate its commitment to its alumni, students, and the wider Norwich family.
