Student FAQs
I think I might have H1N1. What do I do now?
If you’re running a fever and have a cough and/or sore throat, call the infirmary at ext. 2552. If Infirmary personnel decide you should be evaluated after your conversation, you will be asked to visit the Infirmary. You’ll be asked to put on a mask when you enter the Infirmary mudroom before going upstairs for examination, when you’ll be clinically evaluated.
They said I have H1N1. What happens next?
If they decide you’re in stable condition, you’ll receive a pink slip assigning you to your dorm room. You’ll be given additional masks and symptomatic medication. Go back to your dorm room and stay there. Infirmary personnel will contact the Office of the Commandant or the Office of the Dean of Students, who in turn will alert Student Affairs. Student Affairs personnel will set you up with a buddy (a roommate or friend).
If I’m sick, how do I get food from the dining hall?
Your buddy will check in on you periodically to see how you’re doing and will bring you meals from the dining hall.
What if my buddy forgets?
You’ll need to check in daily with the Infirmary either by phone or email (ext. 2552, nuinfirm@norwich.edu). If the Infirmary doesn’t hear from you every day, they’ll contact you. Infirmary personnel will give daily patient updates to both the Office of the Commandant and the Office of the Dean of Students.
I’m feeling better. Now what?
Once you’re feeling better and your fever has broken, Infirmary personnel will arrange for you to stop by and have your temperature taken. If your health is no longer in danger, you’ll be released from your dorm room 24 hours later.
