Chris Gendron
Hometown: Colchester, Vt.
Lifestyle: Traditional student
Major: Civil Engineering
Campus activities: Intramural flag football referee and player.
Hobbies: Snowboarding, video games, working out, and playing Frisbee.
Chris came to Norwich after hearing about how great the engineering program is from his step-father, who worked at the University. Once here, Chris said the fact that Norwich was a small school made him feel at home. He also said he enjoys the "school-oriented emphasis and the community atmosphere." This community atmosphere can be seen in each and every class at Norwich, where the student to professor ratio averages at 14–1. It can also be seen in the dorms and the barracks, where Resident Advisors organize resident events ranging from movie nights to ice cream socials, and cadet leaders organize motivating activities and training for the Corps.
This winter Chris will be involved with Norwich's ski/snowboard program after buying a discounted Ski Club season pass to one of Vermont’s many well-known ski resorts. The Ski Club is one of many ways students can enjoy winter at Norwich. Sitting only 500 feet from campus is Paine Mountain, which has terrain great for snowshoeing, sledding, and even snowball fights.
While at Norwich, Chris hopes to be a walk-on wide receiver for the football team, and to join the Civil Engineering Society. Chris’ post-grad ambition is to move to New Hampshire and follow the proud tradition of many distinguished Norwich graduates such as Fred Kreitzberg and be a civil engineer. Kreitzberg's Norwich education contributed to a career so successful that he was able to donate millions of dollars to the University for construction of a library and hockey arena, both of which current students like Chris use and enjoy today. If a Civil Engineering degree from Norwich did this for Fred Kreitzberg, imagine what it could do for you.
