Vadim Beliaev
Lifestyle: Commuter student
Major: Business Management
Minor: Finance and Accounting
Although he was recruited by the Norwich hockey coach, Vadim Beliaev insists he did not come to Norwich solely to play hockey. “Don’t say just hockey! Academics, as well. I like the area. Vermont, it’s nice and quiet.”
Vadim admits it was a big adjustment, coping with college-level course work, a new culture (he’s from Latvia), and the time demands of a varsity sport. He is very matter-of-fact about it, though. “Do the homework, and it will fall into place.”
Currently studying Business Management, with both Finance and Accounting minors, Vadim hopes to pursue a career in banking and finance. He is sincere when he says “schoolwork” is the most enjoyable part of his week.
When asked about the dynamics of sharing a campus with military cadets, Vadim says, “It doesn’t bother me. Once we get in the classroom, we are talking just like normal people. It doesn’t really affect me too much.”
Vadim is less reserved when asked about his friendships at Norwich. “My teammates, we are very close. I was pleasantly surprised when I came here, how close the team is, and it has definitely affected my life, here at Norwich, positively.”
