The Dave Matthews Band concert held on Aug. 31 in Hartford, Conn.,
was highly praised by Norwich students who attended.
Dave Matthews Band played for a packed Ctnow.com Meadows Music
Center for the second night in a row during their summer tour. A
group of Norwich University students trekked down to Connecticut
to hear the band play.
"It's hard to compare him to other bands because of his own
unique, distinctive style," said Rhys Gunther, a junior electrical
engineering major from Glastonbury, Conn. Gunther was just one of
the many Dave Matthews' fans who enjoyed the almost three-hour jam
session.
Josh Frederick, a senior management major from Bangor, Maine, enjoyed
the long rendition of Two-Step. "People were dancing
around; it was great,"
The band is known to play 20- minute renditions of their songs
in concert, attracting a variety of individuals who enjoy the laid
back atmosphere customary to the band's style.
"Comparatively, I want to say that Dave Matthews fans are
very free-spirited and carefree, and that was definitely the feel
of the concert," Frederick said. "I just felt very enlightened
around them."
Ticket prices ranged from $45 to $100. The high ticket prices,
however, did not seem to deter his fans.
"I probably would pay just about anything for a Dave Matthews
Band ticket," said junior mechanical engineering major Scott
Little of Standish, Maine. "I love that band."
Most fans try to catch more than one concert.
"We're in the process of looking for tickets right now for
the show in Virginia," Fredericks said. "So we may have
to make a road trip."
Dave Matthews released a solo album called Some Devil, and
he tried out a few of his new tunes at many of his concert dates.
Dave Matthews Band continues to be one of the top grossing bands
in concert ticket sales.
"Dave is almost better live," said Gunther. "It
gives him more freedom to improve and go with the flow of the music."

CD Review

O.A.R "In Between Now and Then"
The Indie, folk/acoustic rock band Of A Revolution (O.A.R.) are
back with a fourth album, their first on a major record label. The
album has the same which power and emotion which has made them underground
superstars. The album has everything from its fast paced, upbeat
songs such as "Hey Girl," to its slow and melodic songs
such as "James" and "Anytime Now."
Some of the tracks on this album are borrowed from previous O.A.R.
albums. This gives new O.A.R. fans a chance to sample other songs
that O.A.R. has released.
The new songs on the album are heavily reggae driven, like much
of their previous work. The guitars are accompanied by great drumbeats
that give the whole album an uplifting feel, which energizes you
and makes you want to listen to it over and over again.
The album also comes with a free DVD, which has live performances
and other extras.
Rating: A-
Key songs: Hey Girl, Risen, Any Time Now, and Old Man Time
