Seward joins men's basketball as new asst. coach this yearBy Adrian Ackles After a successful 2002-03 season, the Norwich University men's basketball team has high expectations and plenty of new additions to assure its success during this next season, according to coach Paul Booth.
The team had a 14-12 record last season, eight more wins than the previous year. "I was thrilled; it was one of my more, if not the most, enjoyable years," Booth said. Captain Matt Johnson, 21, a chemical engineering major from Hopewell Junction, NY., said of the conference championship that "we were close but didn't quite get there." Johnson said the team finished the season strong last year and plans on carrying the momentum through to this year. The team also has a new assistant coach, Will Seward, who recently finished graduate work at Boston University. Seward also played basketball while attending Springfield College in Massachusetts, where he worked under the head coach Dennis Holt. "I'm really excited to be a part of what is going to be and what has been a really successful program," Seward said. Seward will replace Mark Kuntz, who is now an assistant coach at Willimington College in Ohio. The team is excited to work with Seward. "He is a great guy and I think he has a lot to bring to the team," whether it be rebounding or scoring," Dupont said. The team plans to begin its preseason conditioning soon, led by co-captains Matt Johnson and Adrian Ackles. Last year's team received accolades from the Basketball Times for the top season turnarounds. The team wants more for this year, however. "We are going to do a lot better," Hensley said. "We are going to win our conference and go to the NCAAs." |
