NU students charged with campus thefts

Two former Norwich University students were arraigned last month
in Washington County District Court on charges of burglary, according
to the Northfield Police Department.
The two students, Kevin Whitlow, 19, and Darrell Grey, 19, will
be returning in January to face trial, according to Jeffery Shaw,
the Northfield Police Chief.
"Sometimes it just takes a long time to solve a case,"
Shaw said. "I'm sure there are a lot of students that knew
who these people were and just didn't want to get involved.
"We recovered one laptop which will be returned to its owner
," Shaw said. "We are currently working on another case
of a stolen laptop at the university."
According to Shaw, many thefts which occur at Norwich get reported
to university security but not to the police.
"I would tell students to report any theft to the Police Department
as well as university security," Shaw said. "Students
can call us at 485-9181, which is a 24-hour phone line, and report
any theft. If we are not here, the state police will answer the
call and dispatch the call to Northfield."
Shaw said that students at Norwich should get involved and report
crimes that occur on campus.
"Its time for everyone to stand up and get involved,"
Shaw said. "If we can stop the crime that's going on and if
everyone does their part, I think we could have an even better campus
and even better learning environment."
